Rochester is a unique community in that it plays host to hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Our residents have learned, over the years, the "fine art" of directing visitors to restaurants, lodging, churches, shops and "hot spots" around the city. The VISITOR magazine is intended to acquaint guests to our community. We want you to feel welcome and to make the time spent in our city as pleasant as possible.

The Mayo Medical Center is the main focal point which draws many visitors to Rochester. A medical complex consisting of not only the Mayo Clinic, but also Saint Marys and Rochester Methodist Hospitals, provides outstanding health care for patients from across the nation and around the world.

Still, other visitors come to Rochester to do business with IBM Rochester, Pemstar, Crenlo, and other industrial complexes located within the city. Our business industries are diverse and include computers, food processing, production of hospital/surgical equipment, electronics, metal fabrication, and agricultural related industries.

IBM Rochester is the second-largest employer in the city. It develops and manufactures powerful servers and storage devices. Customers around the world place these products at the heart of their business. Those moving into e-business rely on IBM Rochester products to help enable their success.

Due to the heavy visitor population, Rochester is a "visitors' haven".  Hotels, motels and guest homes abound, with restaurants and retail shops all conveniently located.

Transportation is also easily accessible. Bus transportation provides regularly scheduled runs between the downtown business district/medical complex, shopping districts and outlying areas of the city. Cab service, shuttles, limousine service, wheelchair or stretcher transportation, and emergency paramedic ambulance service for both long distance and intercity emergency transportation is also available. Rochester International Airport is serviced by American and Northwest Airlines.

The city of Rochester has not forgotten recreational and cultural pursuits for the visitor. Enjoy a wide variety of entertaining musical, theatrical, and artistic events, as well as interesting tours, art galleries, and shopping. Or, you can golf, bike, swim, hike, play tennis, ice skate, canoe, bowl or attend exciting sporting events.
